Sarah Tinks Cross

Sarah is a personal style expert, wardrobe management extraordinaire, experienced seamstress, No.1 best selling author, and founder of MYVOS® aka My Very Own Stylist. Her mission is to elevate every woman’s mood, well-being and confidence just by opening her Wardrobe door - and clever garment alterations that turn standard off-the-peg size garments into real body shape clothing is one of her methods.  

Her professional love affair with clothing began as a designer before becoming the lead Fashion & Clothing Lecturer at Gloucestershire College UK. Later adding Personal Colour Analysis to her repertoire, she was awarded ‘Best Image Consultant New Comer’ by CBM International. In 2019, Sarah won funding for her innovation in sustainable wardrobe editing services, which includes her seamstress teachings in how to alter and re-style clothing.

Do I need any previous Sewing experience?

No experience necessary.

This course is designed for new sewists and intermediate sewists alike, who can operate a sewing machine on a straight stitch and zigzag stitch.

I have garment making experience, what will I learn?

Garment alterations are the best way to improve on garment making skills, here's why:

> Focus is on the finishing details

> Greater understanding of how to alter patterns for fit

> Clearer idea of seam/hem allowances for types of fabric

What equipment will I need?

Sewing Machine.

Basic Sewing Kit such as thread, scissors, pins, tape measure (recommended list provided before course).

Garments to alter.

& Computer/Laptop/Tablet/Mobile for course access.

How long is the course?

8 - 10 consecutive weeks.

All LIVE training and Modules are recorded for lifetime access, to view as as many times as you like, when ever you like.

What if I can't make LIVE or miss a module?

Not a problem.

Everything is recorded and uploaded to your course area within 24hrs of delivery, for you view at your convenience.

Will I complete the course?

YES.

All lessons and sewing tutorials will be added to your course area, every week, as the modules are delivered, and will be there for a lifetime.

What if I'm unable to sew an alteration or can't keep up?

I'm so glad you asked.

The sewing tutorials are in realtime, designed to sew-along at your own pace. You can pause, rewind, fast-forward and repeat as much as you need to.

There is no time limit or end date - Lifetime access means you can keep all the lessons and tutorials to refer to when ever you need to to complete any garment alteration.

Is there any extra tuition if I get stuck?

YES! YES! YES!

The course consists of up to 4 hrs a week LIVE with me. Module delivery every Tues 7pm, then further implementations hours Wednesday mornings and evenings.

What fabrics are covered in the course?

All fabrics that clothing is made in - from floaty dresses, stretchy T-shirting, delicate silks, bouncy woollens, dense rigid clothes like denim, and all the popular viscoses and polys.

Is this the same as other sewing lessons?

Unlike traditional sewing lessons and classes, this is all about practical, wearable results. You’ll learn the alterations that make the biggest difference to fit, comfort, style, and confidence – your best wardrobe is about to happen.
